PHIL DARUSH

Philippa "Phil" Best Darush, 93, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday morning at Premier Nursing and Rehab Center in Jacksonville surrounded by her family. She had been a resident of Jacksonville for the past 14 years.

Phil was born in Wayne County Nov. 16, 1920, to the late E.E. and Mabel Carraway Best. She was married to the late Harry W. Darush.

Phil lived a life of dedication to her family and friends and to her community.

She served her community many ways as a charter member of the Goldsboro Chapter of American Business Woman Association and as a member of the Rebekah Circle, American Legion Auxiliary and Exchangettes of Wayne County.

A strong Democrat, Phil served as past president of the Wayne County Democratic Women.

She was a longtime member of First Free Will Baptist Church and the ladies auxiliary. While living in Jacksonville, Phil was an active member of the Singles Club, and could often be found out dancing with her friends.

A service celebrating Phil's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Phil is survived by her daughters, Marjorie K. McCann of Jacksonville and Margaret D. Stamper and husband, Thomas, of Jacksonville; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Edward E. Best and wife, Jenny, of Athens, Ga.; sister, Kay B. Daughtry of Garner; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchild; her nephews, David R. Daughtry, Ward Best and Carraway Best; and niece, Lucy Best.

She is also survived by a dear friend, Joanne Roberts, and her friend and dance partner, Warwick Frizzell.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 2, 2014, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
