HAZEL T. CARAWAN

March 12, 1924-Feb. 25, 2014

Hazel T. Carawan, 89, died Tuesday night at Willow Creek Nursing Home.

Born in Andalusia, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Houston Beade Thrower and Annie Esther Adams, and wife of the late Zeb Thomas Carawan.

Prior to declining health, Hazel faithfully attended Mount Olive First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Dail and the Rev. Doug Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Family members will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times, at the home of her daughter, Sharon in Mount Olive.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Godwin of Mount Olive, Jean Kroum and husband, Jerry, of San Antonio, Texas, and her son, David Earlon Killette and wife, Amelia, of Swansboro; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
