KINSTON -- Elaine Capps Williford, 81, Kinston, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Elaine was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Wayne County to the late William Paul Capps and Elizabeth Britt Capps.

Elaine worked at Carolina Telephone and Telegraph for 35 years.

She was actively involved in her church, Westminster United Methodist Church, and also Meals On Wheels.

Ma' Laine, as she was named by her grandchildren, was devoted to her family. She was known for her carrot cakes, loved spending time in her flower garden and enjoyed reading.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster United Methodist Church, with the Rev. T.R. Miller and the Rev. Hank Jarman officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Ralph L. Williford Sr.; son, Ralph L. Williford Jr. (Betty); daughter, Sandra W. Rockenhauser (Jim); granddaughters, Ashley W. Ledford (Stephen) and Brittany Leigh Williford; two great-grandchildren, Anna Caroline and Kevin Layton Ledford; sister, Pauline C. Bryan; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie C. Bryan, Erma C. Williford and Gladys C. Hatsell.

The family will receive friends Monday beginning one hour before the service.
