TEMPIE SMITH DAVIS

PIKEVILLE -- Tempie Smith Davis, 91, a lifetime resident of Pikeville, went to be with her heavenly father Monday, Dec. 17, 2012.

A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Julia Strickland Smith, and the widow of James Elmer Davis.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pikeville Cemetery, with Dr. Don Sauls and the Rev. Mark Whitfield officiating.

Surviving are her daughter, Alice Mercer and husband, Garry, of Black Creek; grandsons, Lee Mercer and Ben Mercer and wife, Neta; sister, Belle Waddell of Lucama; brothers, Theddie Smith and wife, Jo, of Wilson, George Smith of Wilson, Simpson Smith and wife, Jewell, of Wilson, and Ed Smith and wife, Elizabeth, of Goldsboro; and a sister-in-law, Ila Grey Smith formerly of Pikeville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Pikeville Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 910, Pikeville, N.C., 27863, or the charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
