Auburn Leo Cooke Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Auburn was born in Wayne County Jan. 27, 1935, to the late Frederick A. Cooke and Lou Wilda Holland Cooke.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

He was a retired building contractor.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Pikeville Cemetery, with Gary Patterson officiating.

The family will greet friends Sunday following the service.

Auburn is survived by his wife, Ester Mendoza Cooke; son, Auburn L. Cooke Jr. of Goldsboro; daughters, Reeva Cooke Reid and husband, Mark, of Goldsboro and Anna Nicole Cooke of the home; sisters, Joyce C. Starling and husband, O.L., of Goldsboro, Brenda C. Johnstone and husband, Donald, of Goldsboro and Louwanna C. Pender and husband, Gary, of Pikeville; brother, James F. Cooke and wife, Betty, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Alicia Barfield and Sierra Reid; and great-grandchildren, Sage Barfield and Trinity Hendrix.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Edith Wright Cooke and Wilda Carolyn C. Peacock.
