GRACE ALDRIDGE HILL

KINSTON -- Grace Marie Aldridge Hill, 81, of Kinston, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. today, Oct. 28, 2012, at Jackson Heights Original FWB Church, 285 Camellia St., Kinston, and other times at her home. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Dr. Danny K. Hill and the Rev. Ashley Summerlin officiating. A private burial will be held later at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
She had a loving and gentle spirit about her that was evident to all who knew her. She was devoted to God and all of her family. Grace was the daughter of the late Shade Aldridge Sr. and Lathie Aldridge of Sandy Bottom. She was also the wife of the late Herman Haywood Hill to whom she was married for 56 years. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl Aldridge, Felix Aldridge, Henry Aldridge, and J.W. Aldridge; sisters, Ellen Hardison and Florence Hardison; grandchildren, Ashlyn Marie Edwards, Cyndie Michelle White and Danny Kaye Hill Jr.
She was one of the first members of Jackson Heights OFWB Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for the adult ladies class, was a choir member and assisted her husband as church treasurer for many years. She began her career in education as a driver for the Bookmobile for the Kinston Public Library. She later worked with Kinston City Schools food service while earning her degree from Lenoir Community College. She finished her career in the school finance department and retired after 18 years of service with the public school system.
Survivors include her loving children, Dr. Danny K. Hill and wife, Brenda, of Snow Hill, Sharon Green and husband, Paul, of Jacksonville, Fla., Jeffrey T. Hill and wife, Linda, of Kinston, and Amy Hill Edwards and husband, Jeff, of LaGrange; grandchildren, Ben Hill, Nathaniel and wife, Michelle, Sarah Elizabeth Gay and husband, Keith, Kimberly Dawn Hill, Owen Hill, Paul Green Jr., Brian Green and wife, Angel, and Lauren Edwards; great-grandchildren, Tristan Green, Brandon Green, Preston Green, Ashley Green, Amber Grace Hill and Victoria Le Hill; step-great-grandchild, Brandon Gay; sister, Jeanette Canady and husband, Ralph, of Kinston; sisters-in-law, Iris Aldridge of Kinston, Joyce Brown of Roanoke, Va.; Ruth-Ann Bland and husband, Marshall, of Kinston; brother, Shade Aldridge Jr. of Kinston; brothers-in-law, Aubrey Hill and wife, Darden, of Cove City, Ronald Hill and wife, Anastasia, of Goldsboro; many special nieces and nephews; special family friends, Jay Converse, Bobbi Jean Harrell and son, Shawn; and special caregivers, Amy Martin and Cynthia Ivery.
