JAMES A. "JIMMY" BARWICK

MOUNT OLIVE -- James Arthur "Jimmy" Barwick, 72, of the Summerlin's Crossroads community, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 25, in a motor vehicle accident.

Services will be at Tyndall Funeral Home today, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. to remember Jimmy and the good, useful and helpful life that he lived. The Rev. Mickey Whitfield and the Rev. Bryce Rouse will preside over the services, after which visitation will follow. Burial was private on the family farm near one of Jimmy's favorite spots. Friends and family are also welcome to call at the residence.

Jimmy was a well-known public servant in the Summerlin's Crossroads/Beautancus communities near Mount Olive, whether it was a fund-raiser for someone in need, or a church or community purpose, Jimmy was there to lend a helping hand. He was a retired volunteer fireman with Oak Wolfe Fire Department and was active on the upkeep committee for the Oak Ridge Community Building. He had served in the North Carolina National Guard, retiring after 25 years of service, and was retired from Cooper/Bussman where he had been a supervisor. In earlier years, he also had been a supervisor with Burlington Industries. In his retirement, he had been employed with John Patterson Furniture Co. in Mount Olive. He was a long-time, loyal member of Rooty Branch Original Free Will Baptist Church where he was a past deacon and Sunday school superintendant.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Lettie Pate Barwick of the home; his mother, Essie Sullivan Barwick of Mount Olive; a daughter, Lori Barwick of Mount Olive; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James A. "J.B." Barwick Jr. of Mount Olive, and Ronald and Jennifer Barwick of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, James Blake Barwick and Emma Rose Barwick, both of Mount Olive; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Essie Rose and Vernon Carter of Mount Olive, Elnor Brickhouse of Atlantic, and Mary and Richard "Ricky" Willis of Newport; a sister-in-law, Cathy Pate Rouse of Albertson; and several nieces and nephews. His father, Morris James Barwick; a younger brother, Ronald Barwick; his parents-in-law, J. Willard and Emma Louis Pate; and two brothers-in-law, Frederick A. "Bud" Rouse and Harry Brickhouse, preceded him in death.
