ARNOLD RAY SMITH

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Arnold Ray Smith, 85, of Seven Springs, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2012.

A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arnold Ball and Harold Herring officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Pineview Cemetery, Seven Springs.

Arnold was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Wayne County to the late George Ray Smith and Lila Jones Smith. He was a retired farmer and a founding member of the Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department. In earlier years, Arnold enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Arnold is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ludie "Lou" Turner Smith; two sons, Ray Smith and wife, Kathy, of Seven Springs, Sammy Smith and wife, Bonnie, of Seven Springs; two daughters, Joan Barton of Seven Springs and Amy Britt and husband, Jeff, of LaGrange; four step-children, Debra Alphin and husband, Ronnie, of Kinston, Judy Howell and husband, Steve, of Pikeville, Sue Price and husband, Tracy, of Seven Springs, Larry Parker and wife, Shannon, of Holly Springs; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, Arnold was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Tyndall Smith; and two sisters, Evelyn Barwick and Thelma Barwick.

The family will receive friends Sunday following the service and at other times, they will be at the home, 280 Vann Smith Road, Seven Springs.
