BARBARA M. JONES

MOUNT OLIVE -- Barbara Murray Jones, 71, passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 11, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Caswell County, she had been a longtime resident of Kinston, where she was employed by the Kinston City Schools as a school bus driver for children with special needs.

She was also "the Avon lady" for many years, and she and her late husband operated a beach bingo business in Kinston. An avid bingo player, she too, enjoyed bowling, and for more than 40 years, had been a member of the WIBC Bowling League.

She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kinston, but recently had been affiliated with The First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Goldsboro.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny George Jones Jr.; her parents, Norman K. and Ruby Nelson Murray; and two brothers, David Murray and Joseph Murray.

She is survived by her son, Darrell Jones and his wife, Dr. Kimberly Burch Jones, of Mount Olive; a daughter, Debbi Jones of Kinston; three grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Jones of Mount Olive and Agatha Lungi and Nickolas Lungi both of Kinston; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Dave Lants and Josephine "Sis" and Chriss Crisostomo all of Maryland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wallace and Teresa Murray of Florida and Tony and Jennifer Murray of Maryland; two other sisters-in-law, Gwen Murray of Dunn and Mary Murray of Indiana; a very dear friend, Margaret Wade of Kinston; and an uncle, who was more like a brother, John Nelson and his wife, Brenda, of Godwin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, officiated by the Rev. John Howard, and followed by visitation. Committal services will be Sunday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at Westview Cemetery in Kinston.

Friends and family are also being received at the Darrell Jones residence, 401 N. Martin St. in Mount Olive.
