MARGARET M. FLANIGAN

Margaret Stephenson McArthur Flanigan, 96, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Margaret was born in Johnston County June 21, 1916, to the late Joe Stephenson and Esther Creech Stevenson. She was married to the late James David McArthur Jr. and the late Jack Flanigan.

Margaret was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro. She was devoted to her church, and was involved in many activities, where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in McChesney Hall at First Presbyterian Church, followed by a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. in Black Chapel, with the Rev. Carol Pierson and Parker Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Nance and husband, Michael, of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Kim Hunter Green and husband, Randy, of Mebane; grandson, Randy Hunter and wife, Alice, of Hendersonville; and five great-grandchildren, Bailey Hunter, David Hunter, Harrison Hunter, Jesse Green and Hunter Green.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jerry Swann, and a special friend, Barbara Holmes.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care it provided for Margaret during her final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude. Also a special thank you to the caregivers on the 500 hall at the Brian Center, who cared for Margaret over these past months.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Salvation Army, 610 N. William St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or the charity of one's choice.
