MOUNT OLIVE -- Elsie Mae King McArthur Whitman, 84, passed away at Kitty Askins Hospice Center Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Nathan Kimbell and the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday, Oct. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m., and at other times at the Douglas McArthur residence, 817 N. Church St., Mount Olive.

Mrs. Whitman was a member of Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church, American Legion Post 103 auxiliary and Woodmen of the World.

She is survived by her husband, James M. Whitman; a daughter, Doris Heffner of Dudley; two sons and their wives, Ray Douglas and Marie McArthur and William Earl and Jeanie McArthur all of Mount Olive; a brother, David King of Mount Olive; eight grandchildren, Bobby McArthur, Kenneth McArthur, Douglas McArthur, Christy Turner, Daniel Heffner, Donna DeLong, Timothy McArthur and Hannah Moore; seven great-grandchildren, Jimmy McArthur, Noah McArthur, Bryson McArthur, Riley Heffner, Lillie Turner, Tam DeLong and Medko DeLong; and several nieces and nephews.

Loved ones preceding her in death include a daughter, Peggy McArthur; two sons, Henry Burell McArthur and Billy Ray McArthur; a sister, Viola K. Turnage; a brother, Ben Everette King; and her parents, Henry and Minnie Ingram King.
