George Cooper Bedford, 83, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at his home.

George was born in Wayne County March 4, 1929, to the late Joe and Bessie Waters Bedford. He was married to the late Donnie Mae Bedford, who preceded him in death June 27, 2003.

George lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community.

He retired as produce manager from A&P Grocery Store, and delivered newspapers for the Goldsboro News-Argus for many years.

George leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for the people he cared about. He always got great pleasure in cooking pigs for family gatherings or for any reason to get together with others.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Cotton officiating. Entombment will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

George is survived by his daughters, Marshelle Williams and husband, Roger, of Goldsboro and Jackie Hawley and husband, Ray, of White Lake; son, Walt Bedford and wife, Carolyn, of Pikeville; grandchildren, Everett Jones, Jeffrey Jones, Jon Vance, Brandi Butts and husband, David, Mandy Hutchinson and husband, Brad, Blake Gurganus and wife, Mary, Ashley Williams and Adam Williams; great-grandchildren, Braxton Jones, Reed Jones, Braylee Butts, Brittney Butts, Dacen Butts, Dawson Butts, Katie Hutchinson and Ansley Hutchinson; brother, Lloyd Bedford and wife, Kay; and a special nephew, Rex Davis and wife, Sherrie.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbert Bedford, Harvey Bedford and J.D. Bedford, and his sister, Rena Bell Spivey.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home ,and other times at 1141 Old Smithfield Road in Goldsboro.
