LILY ROUSE CARR WEAVER

Lily Rouse Carr Weaver died peacefully Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

She was born May 15, 1918, in LaGrange to the late Janie Sutton Rouse and Everette Rouse.

A graduate of East Carolina Teacher's College, she attended Library School at the University of North Carolina, and went on to earn a master's degree in library science from East Carolina College.

Mrs. Weaver taught library science, and set up, and then ran, the library at Wahl-Coates Elementary School, which was then a part of East Carolina University, until she retired in 1981.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma professional sorority for educators.

Mrs. Weaver was one of the organizing members of Oakmont Baptist Church in Greenville, where she served several terms on the board of deacons.

A member of the Hospital Service League, she was also active with the Ronald McDonald House, Children's Miracle Network and the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Matthew Lee Carr (died in 1946); her second husband H.D. "Buck" Weaver (died in 1992); a brother, John T. Sutton of LaGrange; and two sisters, Betty Rouse Swinson of LaGrange and Julia Rouse Brady of Williamston.

She is survived by a daughter Betty Carr Trahos (Mike) of Milford, Va.; son H.H. "Nick" Weaver (Charlotte) of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Carr Trahos (Boris Tillett), Norman M. Trahos (Victoria), David H. Weaver (Tracey), Kathryn W. Sumrell (Cale), Maxwell J. Weaver and James H. Weaver; six great-grandchildren, Nathaniel C. Tillett, Rachel Tillett, David H. Weaver Jr., L. Forbes Weaver, Weaver D. Sumrell and Isabelle K. Sumrell; and three nieces.

A graveside service of remembrance will be held at Fairview Cemetery in LaGrange Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Greg Rogers officiating.
