MURRELLS INLET, S.C. -- Gary Robinson, 68, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, after a five-year battle with lung cancer at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Born in Gastonia, he was the son of the late John and Artie Lee Robinson.

Mr. Robinson was a United States Air Force veteran.

He worked in various textile mills for 30 years.

He was the retired owner of Innovative Textile Sales and Service.

He was a member of the Elks, Moose Lodge, the American Legion and Belin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. Robinson coached for 20 years various youth sports in Belmont, and was a member of South Point Life Saving Crew for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Robinson of Murrells Inlet; two sons, Robbie (Tara) Robinson of Panama City, Fla., and Terry (Angie) Robinson of Belmont; two daughters, Melinda Robinson of Belmont and Beth Mumaw of Converse, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Charles (Nancy) McAllister of Surfside Beach and Bob McAllister of Goldsboro; two stepdaughters, Sandi Wheeler of Newton Grove and Linda Ervin of Goldsboro; three brothers, James (Chris) Robinson of Crowders Mountain, Tommy (Shirley) Robinson of Charlotte and Rick Robinson of Belmont; and two sisters, Joyce (Ronn) Banks of Charlotte and Dot Hensley of Gastonia.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. B. Mike Alexander Jr. and the Rev. Tom Chidester officiating.
