George "Shorty" Howard Anderson Jr., 85, passed away Thursday at his home surrounded by his family.

Shorty was born in Vance County, Henderson, to the late George Howard Anderson Sr. and Minnie Lee Fergerson Anderson.

He was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Shorty worked for many years as an electrician with J.P. Taylor Tobacco Co., and retired from Universal Leaf Tobacco Co.

He also was willing to help family and friends with any electrical work when called on.

Shorty always enjoyed the opportunity to go fishing or hunting. His passion was hunting with bird dogs that he also trained.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Barry Teague and the Rev. Reynolds Smith officiating. Interment will be Sunday, June 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Grants Chapel Church Cemetery on N.C. 55 in Mount Olive.

The family will greet friends Saturday at Seymour Funeral Home immediately following the service and other times at his home at 202 New Hope Village Drive, Goldsboro.

Shorty is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mildred Irene Williams Anderson; his daughters, Marsha Jester and husband, Bond, of Pikeville and Patricia Head of Aiken, S.C.; his grandchildren, Chad Head and Melissa Noggle of Williston, S.C., Ashley Carter and wife, Karla, of Pikeville, Christina Penny and husband, Brian, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Amanda Jester of Princeton; and eight great-grandchildren, Bella Head, Kaylee Noggle, Ashton and Elizabeth Carter, Samantha, Zachary, and Chloe Penny, and Matthew Waters.

He is also survived by a sister, Ethel Mae Smith of Muncie, Ind., and nephews, Smokey and Skippy Smith and their families of Muncie, Ind.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bobby Lee Head.

The Anderson Family would like thank the staff at Willow Creek, 3HC Home Health and 3HC Hospice, for their care and support during his illness. Thank you all so much.
