JAMES THOMAS HINNANT

Dec. 12, 1921-June 18, 2012

Mr. James Thomas Hinnant was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Johnston County to Mr. Willie Hinnant and Ailey Whitley Hinnant. He passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was educated in the Johnston County public schools.

James and Mildred Gibbs were united in holy matrimony in 1951.

He served in the United States Army for four years, and was honorably discharged after serving our country during World War II.

He then worked at and retired from Cherry Hospital as a supervisor of dietary services.

He joined Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church at a very early age, where he served on the usher board with great pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his lovely wife, Mildred Hinnant; and a son, Robert Gibbs.

He leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Harold Flowers of California, Willie (Deborah) Hinnant of Jonesboro, Ga., Millard (Van) Hinnant of Goldsboro and James (Toni) Williams of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Evelyn Deans of Goldsboro; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Williams of Goldsboro and Rose Nichols of Chicago, Ill.; 30 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 318 Denmark St., Goldsboro.

Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Hinnant's delicate temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted by E.M. Matthews' angelic white fleet to Wayne Memorial Park North for interment rites.

Mr. James Hinnant and the Hinnant family are in the hallmark of care at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
