JAMES AUSTIN TURNER III

Aug. 7, 1940-Jan. 24, 2012

James Austin Turner III, 71, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

A private service was held on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at McEwen Funeral Service -
Pineville Chapel.

He was born Aug. 7, 1940, the child of Jim and Linerieux Turner. He graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, in 1959, and afterward attended Wingate College and Charlotte College. From the time he was in high school, "Jimmy" worked for National Welders Supply Company of Charlotte, holding numerous positions from route driver to company president. For several years he managed the Goldsboro branch of National Welders; after a period of time he returned to Charlotte to become president of the company. In 1970, it was learned that Jimmy had multiple sclerosis, but he continued to work and be active until the early 1990s when he was forced to retire for health reasons. Throughout his entire life, all who knew Jimmy would attest to his generosity and unfailing optimism. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Linda Powell Turner; his sister, Judith T. Carpenter; his sons, David G. Turner Sr. and wife, Susan, Jay Eason, and Scott Eason and wife, Karen; his grandsons, David G. Turner Jr. and Christopher Eason; and granddaughters, Lilly Turner, Nichole Eason, Ashley McDermott and Alexis McDermott. The Turner family also wanted to recognize these caregivers: Whitley, Sharon, Mary, Felicia, Elida and Tito, who have provided love and support for many years.

The family suggests any gifts or memorials be sent to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC 27317. Mr. Turner and his wife, Linda, had a special love for children and have supported this charity for many years.
