Kathleen G. Wilson, 85, U.S. 70 East, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012.
Kathleen was born June 14, 1926, at the Griffin homeplace near Seven Springs to William McKinley Griffin Sr. and Lou Allie Smith Griffin.
She was married to the late Robert Monroe "Bobby" Wilson for 55 years. They lived in the Elroy community, and attended New Hope Friends Meeting.
She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Wilson Haithcock and husband, Timothy Haithcock, and Sharon Wilson Crawford and her fiancée, John Parker, all of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Worth Haithcock II and wife, Caroline, of Goldsboro, Troy Robert Haithcock of New York, Robert Kader Crawford and wife, Michelle, of Chapel Hill and Lauren Kathleen Crawford of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Worth Timothy Haithcock III and Cara Monroe Haithcock; a sister, Edna Wise Hinson; nieces, Kim Benton, Kay Holmes, Karla Griffin, Kelly Griffin and Allie Carol Price; and nephews, Ted Ivey, Bob Ivey, Mike Dawson and Billy Joe Hinson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Dawson; a brother, William McKinley Griffin; and a nephew, John Hinson.
She graduated from Seven Springs High School, and attended Louisburg College.
During World War II, she worked in the eye clinic at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
She enjoyed the travel in her late husband's professional baseball career in San Diego, Indianapolis and Toronto until he retired from baseball in 1954.
She and Bobby started several business projects, including the restaurant called Bobby Wilson Barbecue, the Gas-a-teria, an independent self-service station, and later a tire and radiator shop.
She was a member of New Hope Friends Meeting, where she enjoyed the choir director and serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was a member of the David Williams Chapter of the NSDAR and New Hope Extension Club.
A great interest of hers was researching her family genealogy.
Kathleen was blessed with a kind and sweet disposition, many friends and a love of gardening. Her passion was growing flowers and herbs. She spoke to various civic clubs on these topics. Her flowers were often used in wedding and church arrangements.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 24, at New Hope Friends Church at 7 p.m., with visitation immediately following the service in the Family Life Center. A graveside service will be at Wilson Family Cemetery at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25th. Location is directly behind Food Lion on N.C. 111 South.
