Shirley Gregory Hine, 76, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born in Tupper Lake, N.Y., Oct. 15, 1935, to the late George and Clara Black Gregory, and raised in the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains.

She was married to the late retired Lt. Col. Robert David Hine.

She lived a military life, and was a devoted wife and loving mother.

After living all over the country, they settled in Goldsboro in 1969.

Shirley enjoyed playing for many years in the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Bowling League, developing many friendships.

An avid interior designer and gardener, she also enjoyed the outdoors and camping.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

She was predeceased by her son, Stephen Hine.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Arnold of Rocky Mount; sons, David Hine of Goldsboro and Kevin Hine and fiancée, Marilyn Hadley, of Surf City; her grandchildren, David Wade Arnold, Melissa Arnold, Robbie Arnold, Megan Hine Sorrell, Emily Hine, Christopher Hine, Stepheny Hine and Jacqueline Hine; her great-grandchildren, Nolan, Kylee, Lilly and Johnny Wade; and her sisters, Jan Peterson of Fort Edward, N.Y., and Jackie Cully of Plymouth, Mass.; her special friend, Walt Bryant; and loving cat L.B. "Little Buddy."

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
