HAZEL ANNETTA BARNES

April 28, 1957-Jan. 3, 2012

Hazel Annetta Barnes was born in Wayne County April 28, 1957, to the late Elizabeth H. Dabney and the late Sam McClary Sr.

Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, the master walked through his garden, and Hazel heard his voice whisper her name, and she answered the call.

Hazel attended Wayne County Public Schools and graduated from Goldsboro High School class of 1976.

She was employed at Kemp Furniture Factory until the company closed. She was later employed as a bus driver for the Wayne County Public Schools, where she was affectionately known by her children as "Nanabread."

The love of her life happened Sept. 25, 1982, when she married Roy Barnes. To this lovely union two children were born, Lawanda Holloman and Chaivey Barnes.

She joined and was baptized a member of Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, where she served as a member of the choir.

Hazel later relocated to Jacksonville, Fla., where she continued her bus driving career.

While in Florida, she decided to continue her education at Virginia College, and Sept. 15, 2010, she graduated with honors with a degree in medical billing and coding.

She has created so many beautiful memories, and leaves behind to cherish those memories her husband of 29 years, Roy Barnes of the home; a daughter, Lawanda (Trell) Holloman of Goldsboro; two sons, Chaivey (Jamesha) Barnes of Goldsboro and Rico Graham of Goldsboro; eight grandchildren, Pierre, Ziomara, Za'kwon, Shamir, Ahnesti, Marcio, Samad and Saman all of Goldsboro; four brothers, Lestonio Rowe of Charlotte, Ronnie McClary of Goldsboro, Sam McClary of Goldsboro and minister Ronald Richardson of New York; seven sisters, Melonia Holloman of Jacksonville, Fla., Teresa English, LeTanya Holloman, Teresa (Mike) Darden, Trenesha McClary, Lakeisha McClary and Ebony Kornegay all of Goldsboro; an uncle, Lawrence Holloman of Pleasantville, N.J.; an aunt, Mary Holloman of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, who will miss her.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at E. M. Matthews Funeral Home, 401 N. William St., Goldsboro.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 N. Carolina St., Goldsboro.

Following the services in the sanctuary, Ms. Barnes' delicate temple, along with her adored family, will be escorted to Old Mill Cemetery for interment rites.

Ms. Barnes' earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Barnes and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
