NAKIA TIYON HARGROVE

Nakia Tiyon Hargrove was born Oct. 29, 1974, to Nancy H. Burden and Gary Smith in Goldsboro. Nakia departed this earthly life Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1993. He also furthered his education at Wayne Community College majoring in criminal justice.
He was known as a respectful employee at Wayne Memorial Hospital. His latest employment was at Cherry Hospital, where he was employed as a health care technician.
He was a loving son to his mom, Nancy, and stepfather, Thurman Burden.
He loved life, and was very fulfilled with his love for his family. He never met a stranger or anyone he didn't love. Many remember him for his sense of humor and laughter. He found pleasure in giving to others, as well as watching sports on television.
Nakia was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alma and James Hargrove, and paternal grandfather, Melton Smith Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving family, his mother, Nancy Burden of the home; his stepfather, Thurman Burden of the home; his father, Gary (Delphine) Smith of Raleigh; three brothers, Cowayne (Shirley) Lee, Cedric Adams of Clayton and Coriante Smith of Raleigh; a stepbrother, Brandon Burden of Greenville; three sisters, Simon Holmes of Goldsboro, Tiffiney W. Peacock of Wilmington and Tomika Adams of California; a stepsister, Keonda Burden of Goldsboro; his paternal grandmother, Kathleen Smith; six aunts, Lula Davis of New York City, Sandra (Billy) Gerald of Clemmons, Delores (Alphonsia) Cogdell of Fayetteville, Betty Bunch of Mount Olive, Freda (Myles) Holloway of Goldsboro and Gail Daniel of Connors; three uncles, James (Debbie) Hargrove Jr. of California, Melton Smith of Goldsboro and Bill Smith; a very dear friend, Sharonda Williams; a godchild, Tyree Kejuan Boseman; and a host of cousins, family and friends, who loved him beyond measure.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Headquarters Association Building, 1800 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro.
Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Hargrove's delicate temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Wayne Memorial Park South for interment rites.
Mr. Hargrove's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Hargrove, Burden and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
