RIVERSIDE, Pa. -- Joyce Fingado Gibson, 77, Riverside, Pa., where she had resided since 1968, died Jan. 1, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She had been dealing with cancer for the last six months.

She was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Ridgewood, N.J., the eldest child of 10, to the late Gus and Ruth Warn Fingado.

She graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1952, and attended Guilford College in Greensboro for two years, where she met her future husband.

She then attended Columbia University School of Nursing, graduating in 1957 with her RN and Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing.

She was then married, and worked as a graduate nurse in Chapel Hill, while her husband attended medical school.

Her husband of 54 years, Dr. William S. Gibson Jr., whom she married July 27, 1957, survives her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four sons, Christopher and wife, Eileen, of Muncy, Pa., Dr. Whitney and his wife, Mary, of Greenville, S.C., Scott and his wife, Sandra, of Goldsboro and W. Todd and his wife, Angie of Danville, Pa.

She was affectionately known as "Grammy" to her eight grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Clark, Elizabeth, Katie, Bess, Emma and Jack.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Grove Presbyterian Church, 330 Bloom St., Danville, Pa.
