Margie Dewey Scott, 90, passed away early Saturday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. David Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Margie was born in Wayne County on July 20, 1921, to the late Ed and Lula Ezzell Dewey. She was married to the late Frank Edward Thompson for 49 years and the late John Charles Scott for 18 years. Margie's primary goal was the happiness and security of her family. She will be remembered as loving and caring wife, mama, granny, great-grandmother, sister and friend to so many. Margie always enjoyed visiting with her church family and friends. She got great pleasure in cooking for her family and could often be found helping others in her community. Margie was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.
Margie is survived by her daughters, Marsha Williams and husband, Brent, of Mount Olive and Judy Lewis and husband, Walter, of Goldsboro; her sons, William Earl "Bill" Thompson and wife, Jean, of Pikeville and Gerald Gray "Jerry" Thompson and wife, Deborah, of Lynchburg, Va.; her sisters, Dodge Elaine Combs of Goldsboro and Evelyn Frith of Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friends at Kirkwood, Arlene, Maggie and Millie, as well as many others.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bill Hawk, and her grandson, Dennis E. Thompson.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Judy and Walter Lewis, 348 Powell Road, Goldsboro.
The family of Margie Scott would like to extend a very special thank-you to all the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center as well as the staff at the Emergency Room and the second floor of Wayne Memorial Hospital.
