LOUISE BRINKLEY MATTHEWS

MOUNT OLIVE -- Louise Brinkley Matthews of 258 Lee's County Club Road left our midst Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Life celebration service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Ezzell, officiating. Burial will follow in Carver Cemetery.

"Bug" as she was affectionally called by her family, was born on Dec. 11, 1940 in Nash County, to her parents, the late George and Lena Hendricks Brinkley and wife of her loving husband of 51 years, Porter L. Matthews.

She retired in 2003 after 25 years as an educator in Wayne County Public Schools, but continued working at her shop as a licensed cosmetologist until years later.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Christopher Matthews and Veronica L. Harris; three granddaughters, Madison, Baylor and McKayla; one brother, James Brinkley of Spring Hope; six sisters, Queen Hedgepeth of Enfield, Ella Harrison and Lillie Brodie of Spring Hope, Joyce Greene of Louisburg, Lena Davis and Leona Thomas of Wilson.

A time of viewing and reflection will be held today from 3 until 5 p.m. at William Toney's Funeral Home, 516 S Poplar St. Spring Hope. A second viewing will also be held one hour prior to funeral service at the church on Tuesday.

Garris Funeral Home is serving the family.
