Lehman Smith fought a courageous battle with cancer and died Thursday night at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall.

A graveside service will follow at 5 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Relmon and Velma Smith of Rosewood.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Lamb, and sister, Joyce McClure.

Lehman is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Polly Davis Smith; three sons and spouses, Greg Smith and wife, Pat, of Pikeville, Charles Smith and wife, Karla, of Rosewood and Jeff Smith of Rosewood; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by three loving sisters and spouses, Sandra Harkey and husband, Roger, LaNell Evans and husband, Danny, and Debbie Creech and husband, Jimmy, and a brother and spouse, Jack Smith and wife, Ann.

He also has many nieces and nephews who survive him.

Lehman was a loving husband, Daddy, Granddaddy and Great-Granddaddy.

He was a lifetime farmer in the Rosewood community, where he also was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church.

He faithfully served the community and county in many ways, including former member of the Wayne County Board of Education, Wayne County Fair Director, past Farm Bureau President, served on ASCS board and guided all three of his sons to become Eagle Scouts.

He also served in the United States Army.

His favorite place to be was working on the farm or surf fishing.

Arrangements are being made by Seymour Funeral Home.
