Ernest Delma Parrish, 89, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Kenansville Nursing Home.

Ernest was born in Johnston County Oct. 28, 1922, to the late George J. Parrish and Martha Shaw Parrish.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a Sea Bee.

Ernest retired from the textile industry, having worked with Borden Manufacturing Co. and J.P. Stevens Co.

He had been a member of Clingman Street Church of God.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Leonard officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Heights Cemetery in Smithfield.

He is survived by his wife, Athia Jane White Parrish; his children, Sue Lupton and George S. Parrish, both of Goldsboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Parrish and Braxton Parrish; his sister, Christine Batten; and a grandchild, Kevin Lupton.
