VIRGINIA TILLMAN WATTS

Virginia Tillman Watts, 91, died on Wednesday Dec. 7, 2011, at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro following the Sunday service on Dec. 18, 2011. Both Virginia and Gordon will be buried in Old St. David's Cemetery in Cheraw, S.C. in the spring of 2012 following a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Cheraw. That date not yet determined.

Virginia was born in Cheraw, on Feb. 11, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Daniel Lee Tillman and Lena Amos Tillman.

She attended and graduated from Cheraw High School in 1938 and Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C. in 1942. Miss Watts married Sergeant Gordon P. Watts (USMC), also of Cheraw on July, 5 1942. Mrs. Watts taught health and physical education for Crisp County High School in Cordele, Ga., for Rowan County Schools near Salisbury and later for Goldsboro City Schools. Mrs. Watts undertook additional college studies at Catawba College in Salisbury and worked with Wayne County Community College in Goldsboro. She and Gordon were both members of First Presbyterian Church in Golsboro and enjoyed singing in the choir.

She is survived by her sons, Daniel Tillman Watts of LaGrange and Gordon P. Watts Jr. of Washington; and her granddaughters, Laura Camden Watts and Catherine Adger Watts Rothwell and her husband, Craig Rothwell, all of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carter Blake Tillman Scholarship Fund, Presbyterian College, Advancement Office, 503 S. Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325; or Old Saint David's Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1196, Cheraw, SC 29520.
