LAVERNE G. SWERBENSKI

Laverne Godley Swerbenski, 64, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Laverne was born in Craven County July 6, 1947, to the late Robert Leonwood Godley Sr., and Irma Jackson Godley.
She was a member of the Lord's Table, where she participated in the prayer shawl ministry and 55 plus. Laverne was dedicated to her service with the Christian Caregivers, and was a member of the Rebekahs and the Mountain Top Emmaus.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Kirkland, the Rev. Ken Jefferson and the Rev. Paul Peoples officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will be held Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove Cemetery in New Bern.
Laverne is survived by her children, Katherina Derico and husband, Ken, of Sylva; her son, Philip Swerbenski and fiancee', Jenn, of Henryville, Pa.; her grandchildren, Caitlin Derico, Austin Derico, Amber Swerbenski and Emily Swerbenski; her stepchildren, Jim Swerbenski, Steve Swerbenski and Jean Freeman; five stepgrandchildren; her brother, Robert Godley Jr.; and her sister, Lourenda Godfrey.
She is also survived by her lifelong friends, Jean, Ralph and Danielle St. Clair.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Philip Swerbenski, and her son, Paul Swerbenski.
