D. 'WOODROW' SMITH

KINSTON -- Donnie "Woodrow" Smith, 92, born May 31, 1919 to the late Mary Stroud and Jesse J. Smith of Lenoir County, N.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 7, 2011.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Iola Jones Smith; his sisters, Mary Winifred Heath and Rosa Belle Joyner; and his brothers, Clifton Smith and J.B. Smith.

Woodrow is survived by his daughter, Margie S. Smith and husband Ralph; his grandchildren, Craig Smith of Jacksonville and Jeremy Smith and wife Mandy of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his great-grandchildren, Noah Smith and Reese Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and his longtime employee and friend, Andrew Smith.

Mr. Smith was the owner of Woodrow Smith Mobile Homes, Inc. for 55 years. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and was a lifetime member of the VFW where he previously served as post commander for Post 9514 and District II commander.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Howard-Carter Funeral Home with Judy Deme and Andrew Smith officiating, with visitation to follow, and other times at the home of Margie Smith, 2302 Falling Creek Road, Kinston, N.C. 28504. Graveside services will be held Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at Westview Cemetery with Rev. Preston Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, the Rivermont Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Howard-Carter Funeral Home.
