ESTELLE ROSE SLOAN

Estelle Rose Sloan, 92, of Dudley, formerly of Calypso, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011, surrounded by her family.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, March 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Dudley Christian Church with the Rev. Blane Smith officiating. Visitation with the family will be after the service and at other times at the home of her grandson John. Estelle's ashes will be buried later privately in the Calypso Cemetery.

She was born in Wayne County to the late Chester Garfield Rose and Effie Abigail Britt Rose.

Estelle attended Goldsboro High School and business school in Kenansville studying bookkeeping. She owned Ann's Clothing Store in Calypso and Faison for 16 and a half years. She was a bookkeeper for Needham Sloan Construction and for Sloan Cabinet Shop for over 30 years. She managed rental property at Carolina Beach and at The Anchor at White Lake where she was known as "Granny Sloan." She loved to work in her yard and plant flowers.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Sloan Beaman and husband, Selby; three grandchildren, John Beaman and wife, Barbara of Dudley, Kitty Bryan and husband, Steve, of Goldsboro, and Nell West and husband, Craig, of Fremont; three grandchildren, Lee West, Caroline Bryan, and Luke West; a sister, Nell Teachey; and a brother, Myarl Rose.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Effie Rose; husband, Phelton B. Sloan; sister, Esther Mae Grantham; and grandson, Selby Theodore Beaman II.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to the Dudley Christian Church Building Fund or your favorite charity.
