LUCILLE BOWDEN BAUGHAM

FAISON -- Mrs. Lucille Bowden Baugham passed away after a brief illness at Carolina East/Quinn Hospice Center in Kenansville, N.C., Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011.

She was 105 years old, and a longtime resident of Faison, N.C.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Faison Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Tim and the Rev. Kathy Beach-Verheyofficiating. Interment will follow in Faison Cemetery.

Mrs. Baugham was born May 3, 1905, to John Moseley and Mary Rebecca "Mamie" Carr Bowden in Faison, N.C.

She graduated from Faison High School in 1921 and W. C. (Women's College), now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1924. She married William Mason Baugham June 30, 1928.

She was a teacher at Faison High School, and an elementary school teacher in Rich Square, N.C.

She retired from the Faison Post Office as a clerk after 30 years.

Miss Lucille led a life of service. She was a member of the Faison Garden, Sewing and Sesame clubs.

She was the first woman deacon in Faison Presbyterian Church.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Moseley Carr Bowden, Henry Beals Bowden, DDS, and William Edson Bowden.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Baugham Patten and husband, Donald, of Faison, N.C.; a granddaughter, Janet Patten Pruneau and husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Rosemary Carr and William Christopher Pruneau all of Wilmington, N.C.; a grandson, Jeffrey William Patten and wife, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Alexander Mason and Abby Wynne Patten all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a nephew, John Robert Bowden and wife, Catherine, of Wilson, N.C.; and a niece, Ann Moseley Bowden Wilson and husband, Boyd, of Raleigh, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, Feb. 24, at Faison Presbyterian Church, Faison, N.C.
