MOUNT OLIVE -- James Sanderson Jr., 78, 308 W. College St., Mount Olive, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tyndall Funeral Home, with Dr. Dennis Atwood officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the services, and at the residence at other times.
Mr. Sanderson was a member of Woodmen of the World. Also, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive, its Baptist Men and the Loyal Soldiers Bible class.
Reared on a Lenoir County farm, he was a retired hospital security guard, had worked at automobile dealerships.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Jones Sanderson of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Goodwin and husband, Michael Goodwin, of Mount Olive, and Angela A. Chappell and husband, John Chappell Jr. of Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Lottie P. Civils of Deep Run; five grandchildren, Lisa Romeo, Tina Antonelli, Michael Mott, John Chappell III and Ashleigh Chappell; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren
Mr. Sanderson was preceded in death by his parents, James Sanderson and Swannie Owens Sanderson; four sisters, Virginia Riggs, Alice Whaley, Nancy Sanderson and Virnel Sanderson; and two brothers, Leslie Sanderson and Robert Sanderson.
