PHILLIP C. THORNTON

MOUNT OLIVE -- Phillip "Phil" Carlton Thornton, 68, 396 Manley Grove Church Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Wake Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, with the Rev. Carlton Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Phil had served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War, and had been employed with Hamilton Beach.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Britt Thornton of the home; a daughter, Jennifer T. Mooring and husband, Bryan, of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, Jordan Blake Mooring and Alexis Grace Mooring; three brothers, Glenn Thornton of Clinton, Don Thornton of Newton Grove and Clark Thornton of Pine Level; and three sisters, Janice Harding of Clayton, Linda Rose Jordan of Marshville and Sue Harris of Newton Grove. Several nieces and nephews and many special friends of the family also survive.

He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Carlton "Carl" Thornton Jr., and his parents, Hubert "Tot" Carlton Thornton and Inez Hawley Thornton.

Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Wayne County Relay for Life Purtty Team (in memory of Carl Thornton), c/o Frances Thornton, 396 Manley Grove Church Road, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and at the residence at other times.
