NEWTON GROVE -- Effie Christine Hart Laurent, was born Aug. 18, 1938.
She was a Marine wife, mother and friend.
After a courageous battle with cancer, she went home to be with her Lord Dec. 11, 2010.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Girod "Lucky" Laurent.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Zalesky and husband, Stephen, of Crockett, Texas; son, Girod Paul Laurent Jr., CW03 United State Marine Corps, and wife, Teresa, of Yuma, Ariz..; daughters, Susan Laurent of Wilmington, N.C., Janet Warren and husband, Dale, of Newton Grove, N.C., Kim Hayes of Columbia, S.C., and Dawn "Kriquette" Davis and husband, Dale, of Eureka, N.C.; son, Mark Karr (MDR USNCR) of Alexandria, Va.; five brothers; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and hundreds of Marines, family and friends, who passed through her life.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Braxton Carter officiating.
There will be a visitation following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to 3HC at 1023 Beamon St., Clinton, N.C., 28328, or Kitty Askins Hospice Center at 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
