DOBBERSVILLE -- Melville Warren Odom, 61, died Saturday at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The family will receive friends at Brownings United Methodist Church Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m., with funeral services following in the sanctuary at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Leland Heath Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Friends and family are also being received at the Tatum Odom residence at 6148 Mount Olive Hwy. (N.C. 55 west) in Mount Olive.

Melville and his late wife, Carolyn, would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary Tuesday, the day of his service.

Mr. Odom, born at Dobbersville, was named after an uncle, who died while in service during World War II.

He was a member of Brownings United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Men, and had held various church offices throughout the years.

A graduate of Methodist College, where he received a degree in business administration, he was a retired member of Suttontown Rescue, and was a former employee of Sutton Electric (SESCO) in Mount Olive. He was employed by EMSCO, serving as manager of its Clinton location, and being a former manager of its Dunn location.

He is survived by his parents, Tatum and Joyce Oates Odom of Dobbersville; three daughters, Chastida Gonzales and husband, Hugo, of Dobbersville, Brandy Wilkins and husband, Dean, of Dobbersville and Christy Peterson and friend, Tommy Knowles Jr., of Garland; a son, Dwayne Lee of Mount Olive; several sisters-in-law, Marsha Odom of Dobbersville, Marilyn Roberts and husband, B.C., Kathy Jones and husband, Brian, Betty "Bill" Pate and Jewel Paige and husband, Bennie, all of Faison; a brother-in-law, J.D. Pate and wife, Marty, of Faison; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Pate Odom; his only brother, Doug Odom; and a daughter-in-law, Kristie Jernigan Lee.
