CHARLOTTE -- Walter M. Bottoms Jr., 72, of Charlotte, N.C., died Nov. 6, 2010, at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Lawrenceville, Va., son of the late Walter Morris Bottoms Sr. and Eva Jones Bottoms.
He had worked as a manager with Southern Metals after 38 years of service.
Mr. Bottoms was a United States Army veteran, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his favorite places to visit and spend time with his family was at Farmers Hunt Club in Emporia, Va.
The family will greet friends Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service Derita Chapel.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at McEwen Derita Chapel. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro, N.C.
Mr. Bottoms is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Patricia B. Bottoms; five children, Elizabeth D. McNeairy, Charles A. McNeairy and Richard F. McNeairy all of Charlotte, Kevin M. Bottoms of Arkansas and Robert K. Bottoms and wife, Monica, of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Kevin Robert Bottoms and wife, Melanie, Coby James Bottoms, John F. McNeairy, Amanda J. Bottoms, John Adams McNeairy, Jessica M. Bottoms, Franklin McNeairy and Patricia McNeairy; a great-granddaughter, Carol Ann Bottoms; four sisters and a brother, Lillian Hayes, Mary Willetts, Wayne Bottoms, Sandra Hammack and husband, W.H., and Linda Brna and husband, Joe; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Adams McNeairy Sr.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 S. Church St., No. 303, Charlotte, N.C., 28202-3247.
