SEVEN SPRINGS -- Alma Lee Jones Grady, 85, Seven Springs, passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010.

Mrs. Grady was born April 24, 1925, in Pitt County to the late Jack and Ada Buck Jones.

She attended King's Business College in Raleigh, and later graduated from East Carolina Teacher's College.

Mrs. Grady taught school at Seven Springs School.

She was a very active member of Seven Springs United Methodist Church, where she spearheaded the effort to construct the "Church On The Hill Steps." Mrs. Grady was also instrumental in establishing the Seven Springs Cemetery Trust Fund.

She was an avid gardener, and was best known for the camellia's she grew and shared.

Always active in community affairs, Mrs. Grady was a member of Wayne Democratic Women and Seven Springs Extension Homemaker's Club.

A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Seven Springs United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phyllis Vail officiating. Interment will follow in Seven Springs Cemetery at Seven Springs United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Grady is survived by two sons, Richard Dwight Grady of New Bern and Mack Lyndon Grady and wife, Heather Hoy Grady, of Seven Springs; six grandchildren, William Jesse Grady, Virginia Lee Grady, Rebecca Lynn Grady and Caroline Zilphia Grady all of Seven Springs, Matthew Brown Grady of Greenville and Jonathan Ralph Horner Grady of Raleigh; sister, Thelma Allen and husband, Fenner, of Winterville; four nephews; and two nieces.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seven Springs United Methodist Church, and at other times they will be at the home, 148 Jerusalem Church Road, Seven Springs.

The Grady family wishes to thank Kay Lynch Allen for her love and compassionate care.
