SUMMERFIELD -- Ronald Darwin Walker, 64, passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Wesley Long Hospital following a sudden illness.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Road, Greensboro, N.C.

Ron was born Oct. 2, 1945, in Greensboro, N.C., to Kenneth and Kathleen Walker. He was the oldest of three children.

He received his undergraduate degree from Guilford College in 1967 and his master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1977.

After graduation, he was employed as a textile chemist with Cone Mills Proximity Print Works. At the time of his retirement in 2003, Ron was the general manager/moldmaking products at The Smith Group Inc.

He was an avid student of natural history with a deep interest in travel, golf and landscaping and a great love of animals.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diane Brannon Walker; their beloved daughter, Lindsay Hall Walker; his twin brother, Donald K. Walker and wife, Dianne "Dare" Walker, of McLeansville; his sister, Vickie W. Ratcliff of Jamestown; his father, Kenneth Darwin Walker of McLeansville; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Wilson Walker.

Also surviving are his brothers-in-law, Dennis Brannon and wife, Carmen, of Anderson, S.C., Norman Brannon and wife, Marian, of Tryon and Troy Brannon and Judy Collins of Green Creek.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Forbis and Dick North Elm chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to United Animal Coalition, P.O. Box 8, Jamestown, N.C., 27282.
