Bobby S. Massengill, 58, of 1299 N.C. Highway 111 South, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Edgar S. and Mary M. Massengill. He was the husband of Eunice Rouse Massengill for 38 years.

He was retired from Wayne Co. Sheriff's Office. after 15 years of service and was a truck driver with Goldsboro Milling Co.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. George Lee officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Westview Cemetery in Kinston, with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office Honors.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Julie Massengill of Goldsboro; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Carey Massengill of Goldsboro; his granddaughter, Emma Grace Massengill; his brother and wife, William "Billy" and Diane Massengill of Goldsboro; sisters-in-law and husband, Betty and John Lee of Goldsboro and Annette Rouse of Liddell. He is also leaving behind nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron Ivey Massengill, along with his in-laws, Leonard Sr. and Ruth Rouse, and brother-in-law Leonard Rouse Jr.

Bobby attended Hood Swamp Friends Meeting House. He was an active supporter in the Wayne County Relay for Life as a member of the Flip Flop Gang Team. He also enjoyed ribs from Wilber's Barbecue. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his snookie pookie, Emma Grace.

Family members will greet friends immediately following the service on Thursday evening at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Wayne County Relay for Life (Team Flip Flop Gang No. 131).
