WILLIAM FLOYD YORK

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- William Floyd York, 83, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Ormon and the Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home.

Mr. York was born May 10, 1927, in Goldsboro to the late John Henry York and Sara White York. He retired as a major with the North Carolina National Guard, having previously attained and enlisted rank of first sergeant. Mr. York was also retired from the insurance industry after 63 years of service with Paul Revere Life Insurance in North Carolina, and Principal Life Insurance in South Carolina.

Mr. York was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, and served as choir director for several churches, including East Columbia Baptist Church. He was a member of the Gideons and was a 33rd Degree Mason.

Surviving are his loving wife, Elizabeth Carlisle York; daughters, Susan Allen of North Augusta, S.C., and Sara Tison (John) of Columbia, S.C.; sons, William F. York Jr., of Columbia, S.C., and James Patrick York (Mary) of Lexington, S.C.; grandchildren, Ashley Davis (Kevin), Elise Tison, Rachel Tison, John David Tison, James York Jr., Jordan York, Jason Davis (Jana) and Nathan Lyles; and three great-grandchildren, Jackson Davis, Cooper Davis and Dylan Davis.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Brian Center, St. Andrews, for the care and compassion shown to Mr. York and his family. Also a special thinks to Kim Thornton with Synergy Home Care, and to the owner and staff of the Flight Deck Restaurant in Lexington, S.C.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Gideons.
