GOLDSBORO -- Roland Gray, 90, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 23, 2010, surrounded by his family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Roland was born in Wayne County Oct. 20, 1919, to the late Claudie Gray and Hannah Walters Gray. He was married 58 years to the late Annie Long Gray.

Roland was a longtime farmer in the New Hope Community, and was a member of Park East Church of God.

He had a special love for animals and especially enjoyed watching his cows.

He was a charter member of New Hope Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 7 p.m. in Adamsville-Park East Church of God, with pastor Wesley Jarman officiating. Interment will be Friday, June 25, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Gray Cemetery.

Roland is survived by his sons, Roland M. "Bud" Gray and wife, JoAnne, of LaGrange and Kim Gray and wife, Rhonda, of LaGrange; his grandchildren, Donald Gray and wife, Sam, Dwight Gray and wife, Sherry, Blake Gray and fiancee´, Erin Pfau, and Brooke Gray; his great-grandchildren, Jason Gray, Jessica Gray Ficken and husband, Bryce, Jonathon Gray and Jacob Gray; his brother, Robert "Red" Gray and wife, Mildred, of LaGrange; his sisters, Nancy Cruse and husband, William, of LaGrange and Gertie Duncan and husband, Jack, of Orangevale, Calif.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy Gray, Richard Gray, Raymond Gray and Noah Gray, and his sister, Ruth Smith.

Members of New Hope Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Park East Church of God, 3913 McLain St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534-7117.

The family would like to give thanks to the doctors and staff of Britthaven Nursing Home and Wayne Memorial Hospital for the loving care shown to Mr. Roland, and they also would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Thad West.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church, and other times at 475 Mark Edwards Road, LaGrange.
