PATRICK HENRY SASSER M.D.

Patrick Henry Sasser, M.D., died June 5, 2010, at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of the Patetown area in Wayne County, and son of the late Theodore Malcolm Sasser and Lela Kirby Sasser.
Dr. Sasser graduated from Pikeville High School in 1948, and for one year in high school, played catcher for a semi-professional baseball team, the Tarheels. He graduated from Wake Forest College and Bowman-Gray School of Medicine. He completed his medical internship in Detroit, Mich., and served two years in the Air Force, stationed in Palm Beach, Fla.
Dr. Sasser returned to Goldsboro in 1958 and practiced family medicine for 42 years. He was a dedicated and caring physician whose patients were always his first priority.
Dr. Sasser was married to Patricia Marsh Sasser for 55 years.
He loved time spent with his family, especially at his family farm and during many vacations to the Outer Banks.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and active in the Wayne County Medical Society.
After his retirement in 2000, he spent many happy hours tending his summer garden, playing duplicate bridge and traveling.
He was very proud of his grandchildren, and attended many school programs, sporting events and scouting ceremonies.
Dr. Sasser was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Sasser DeLacey, and his brother, Theodore Malcolm Sasser Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; son, Patrick Henry Sasser Jr. and wife, Lyndia, of Goldsboro; son, William Marsh Sasser of New Orleans, La.; son-in-law, Dr. William Augustine DeLacey of Chesapeake, Va.; sister, Frances Sasser Worsley and husband, Jerome, of Goldsboro; sister, Jane Sasser Hendrix and husband, Alan, of Carolina Beach; sister-in-law, Virginia Marsh Arey of Goldsboro; and grandchildren, John DeLacey and fiancé, Sarah Kirk, of Charlottesville, Va., Virginia Delacey and Patricia DeLacey of Chesapeake, Va. and Patrick Sasser and Gray Sasser of Goldsboro.
Services will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2010, with inurnment in the columbarium following the service.
Family will receive friends in the church common room following the service.
