Col. Michael J. Todaro, 82, passed away Wednesday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, followed by visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Norris, O.S.F.S., officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

He was the son of the late Michael and Freda Brookler Todaro.

Col. Todaro was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Col. Todaro served his country as a dental officer in the United States Air Force and while serving, was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, the Respect Life Ministry, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Officers Association of America. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and volunteered at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Pharmacy.

Col. Todaro is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, of 54 years; his sons, Mike and wife, Nancy, of Goldsboro, Tom of Goldsboro and Greg and partner, James Reese, of Raleigh; his daughters, Vicki Todaro of Goldsboro and Judy and husband, Daniel Casey, of Goldsboro; his brothers, Jerome and wife, Virginia Todaro, of South Greensburg, Pa., and James Todaro of South Greensburg, Pa.; his sisters, Grace Gasparato of Jeannette, Pa., and Jenny Todaro of South Greensburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Maytinee Fromm, Maria and Joseph DiCesare, Samantha and Adam Casey, Tabbatha Patterson, Nina Albright and Barbara Carrow; and great-grandchildren, Paisley, Conrad, Ethan, Evan, Cody, Brody, Chloe, Austin, Ashlin, Rayna and Makenna.
