MOUNT OLIVE -- Rodney Zollie Kornegay Sr., 83, of 1586 White Flash Road passed away Sunday at his home.
Rodney was born in Duplin County on May 25, 1926. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Woodland UMC for 72 years and served as treasurer for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army for a short time at Fort Rucker, Ala. but came back home to take care of the family farm. He was a lifetime Duplin County farmer and served on the Board of Directors of James Sprunt Community College.
He married his only true love, Mary Janice Moore on May 17, 1958. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents Nannie and Zollie Kornegay; two brothers, Selby D. Kornegay and Cecil E. Kornegay; and a son-in-law, Paul R. Beck.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pink Hill Funeral Home with the Revs. Linda Grider and Leland Heath officiating.
Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
Rodney is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Kornegay Beck; a son, Rodney Zollie Kornegay Jr. and wife, Pat; a brother, Bernard F. Kornegay and wife, Martha, of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Matthew Gray Kornegay and special friend Katie L. Foster, Kayla Ann Kornegay and fiancé, Corpsman Michael Owen Reaves and Kelly Brooke Kornegay; two honorary grandchildren,
Brittni Elizabeth Wood and Kacey Lynn Carr; special family friend Lena Kennedy, nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends.
Visitation will be held tonight from 7 until 9 at Pink Hill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Woodland United Methodist Church.
