Patrick Carl Monterone, 60, passed away Saturday.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk chapel, with the Rev. Pete Norris officiating. Visitation will follow. A graveside burial will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery of Goldsboro.

Patrick was born in Dansville, N.Y., to Pat Monterone and the late Francis Ippilto Monterone of Geneseo, N.Y.

Mr. Monterone was employed by Turkington in Garner.

He was passionate about motor racing and was a Southern National Champion, taking the Thunder and Lightning Division in 2004. He competed at the Wayne County Speedway and Coastal Plains Raceway, as well as Kenly, for 12 years.

Patrick also enjoyed restoring classic cars.

Patrick is survived by his wife of 37 years, Gilda Hope Monterone of the home; his son, John Michael Monterone of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepson, Darle Ray Moore and wife, Tiona of King; stepdaughter, Wendy Moore Herring and husband, David, of Dudley; his twin sister, Carol Monterone Johnson and husband, Wilber, of Gregsville, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Dianne Pierce and Gayle Gwaltney of Goldsboro and Kay Bragg of Beautancus; two brothers-in-law, Berry and Craig James of Goldsboro; father and mother-in-law, Dwight and Etheleen Butts of Goldsboro; four grandsons, Anthony, Timothy, Corey and Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers are fellow race car drivers coordinated by Wayne and Tim Goss of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends at other times at the home, 3200 Salem Church Road in Goldsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local church, the Victory Junction or the American Heart Association.
