Hugh Carlton Cole, 81, died Saturday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Pinetops Cemetery in Pinetops.
Born in Wilson, he was the son of the late Daniel Hugh and Lucille Carlton Cole and brother of the late Robert "Bob" Cole.
A member of First Baptist Church, he was the longtime treasurer for the Friendship Sunday school class and was a leader of Boy Scout Troop #6 for many years.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Cole; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim Cole and wife, Kathy, of Washington, D.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Tonya Engles and husband, Mike, of Goldsboro; two sisters, Anne Ehrman of Greenville, S.C., and Jean Owens of Tarboro; and a grandson, Matt Engles of Goldsboro.
Family members will greet friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
