LAGRANGE -- William Earl Jones, 78, passed away to his Heavenly home Tuesday.

A service of remembrance will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arnold Ball officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born June 10, 1931, in Wayne County to the late Leona and William Perry Jones.

William Earl attended LaGrange Church Of God and served with the United States Army during the Korean War.

William Earl was a retired welder with Hevi-Duty.

Mr. Jones is survived by five children, Kathy Marie Pritchett and husband, Hillery, of LaGrange, William Earl Jones Jr. and wife, Martha, of LaGrange, Cynthia Williams of LaGrange, Juanita Schirka and husband, Paul, of LaGrange and William Thomas Jones and wife, Lisa, of Rougemont; four sisters, Carolyn Smith of Kinston, Nellie Burton of Richmond, Va., Betty Jean West of Rocky Mount and Connie Sue West of Warrenton; three brothers, Lonnie McCoy Jones of Jason, Kenneth Ray Jones of Kinston and Gary Lee Jones of Smithfield; a special sister-in-law, Olive Jones; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

His wife of 56 years, Dorothy Lee Watson Jones, preceded him in death Jan. 29, 2010. In addition to his wife and parents, William Earl was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Goodman.

The family will receive friends following the service of remembrance and at other times they will be at the home.
