Mable Katherine Gums Lawrence, 86, passed away Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Heath and the Rev. Wesley Jarman officiating. Burial will be in Pine Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mable was born in Halifax County April 17, 1923, to the late Leland L. Gums and Leatha Ruth Burnette Gums. She was married to the late Bateman F. Lawrence Jr.

Mable was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many.

Mable is survived by her children, Leatha Lawrence of the home, Nona Hunter of Goldsboro, Bud Lawrence of Algonquin, Ill., Leland Lawrence of Goldsboro and Larry Lawrence of the home; her grandchildren, Carl Lawrence, Russell Lawrence, Jason Lawrence, Kenny Lawrence, Annette Lawrence, Leroy Lawrence, Chris Lawrence, Amanda Lawrence and Michael Lawrence; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved pet, Tipsy.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan., 66675-8517.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
