PRINCETON -- Faydine Howell "Ray" Best, 87, Britthaven of Smithfield, formerly of Princeton, died Monday at Johnston Medical Center.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephens Disciples Church of Princeton, with Dr. David N. Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery, N.C. 222 in Fremont.

She was the daughter of the late Nancy C. and Jonah Howell. Ray was married to the late Thomas H. Best.

Faydine is survived by her son, James H. Williams of Smithfield; her daughter, Randa N. Edmundson of Princeton; two sisters, Zaylister Stevens of Princeton and Prescilla Newsome of Washington D.C.; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Locus (Howard) and Eula Mae Ward of Goldsboro and Susie Howell of New York; her grandchildren, Angela, Cassandra, Allison, Adryan, Malcolm, Christopher and Justyn; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Goldie L. Hardy.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Randa, 282 Gurley Mill Road in Princeton.
