JOSEPH "JAKE" BAKER

Died Dec. 23, 2009

Joseph "Jake" Baker, 73, of 241 Hwy. 111 S., passed away Wednesday after driving through the community he loved.

A service to celebrate his life will be held today at 7 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Chapel. Dr. Rev. Repsie Warren will preside.

A graveside burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Wilson Family Cemetery.

Mr. Baker was a resident of Wayne County in the Elroy community. He worked over 60 years for Harry and Mollie Ivey, tending Ivey Farms.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bertha Whitley Baker, of the home; two daughters, Angeline Baker of Chapel Hill and Jacqueline Baker-Bailey of Goldsboro; three sons, Eugene Baker of Goldsboro, Andrew Baker of Charlotte and Marcillius Baker of Roxboro; a sister-in-law, Annie Mae Coney Baker; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Lee Baker; a brother, David "Jep" Baker; and a sister, Sallie Williams; and special family members Mollie and Harry Ivey.

Mr. Baker is also survived by three nieces; three nephews; a host of cousins; and special family, Ted Emery Ivey and Robert Wilson Ivey of Goldsboro.

The family will greet friends today from 6 until 7 p.m. prior to the inspirational service at Rhodes Funeral Chapel, and other times at the home.
